SUMMARY:Rehearsing Philadelphia Orchestra - Shekhinah B. - Vox
DESCRIPTION:Rehearsing Philadelphia Orchestra Shekhinah B. (Vox)\nTicket Info\nAdmission is free. \nWith new commissions by:\nAnn Carlson\nAri Benjamin Meyers\nSun Ra Arkestra (Marshall Allen & David Middleton)\nUrsula Rucker\nXenia Rubinos\nMusical Director: Anthony Tidd\nRehearsal Director for Ann Carlson: Ellen Gerdes \nAbout The Orchestra\nRehearsing Philadelphia introduces The Public Orchestra\, a newly founded orchestra that seeks to represent the cultural and sonic diversity of Philadelphia and challenge western concepts of what a symphony orchestra can be\, look and sound like. Fifty musicians present five new works expressly composed for them by a group of local and international artists. These performances take the form of open public rehearsals over two evenings and an afternoon at Cherry Street Pier. The orchestra includes instrumentation and musical practices from bandoneon to the oud\, from DJing to French horn\, and from electric guitar to Korean percussion. \nThe Public Orchestra Manifesto by Ari Benjamin Meyers can be found here. \nLearn about the artists of The Public Orchestra here. \nAbout Rehearsing Philadelphia:\nThis is a city-wide project exploring the question “How can we be together?” with music as the medium for exploration. It is titled “Rehearsing Philadelphia” to emphasize the nature of modern life—in a constant state of practice and rehearsal. The idea of rehearsing until perfection and then performing does not reflect how most of us live. We embrace the rehearsal process as the way in which people learn to come together\, sometimes in tension and conflict and sometimes with the intention of finding commonalities and ways to live and make music side by side.
